The Intoxicating Page started doing business in 2020 when the founder, Ransom Stephens, began applying analytics expertise acquired through decades of data analysis in particle physics experiments and technology development to targeted ebook marketing. We opened with the opportunity to publish Ransom’s The Book of Bastards, a true-to- the genre fantasy that lent itself to particularly well to targeted marketing. Our approach is to publish titles that fit genre-niches experiencing rapid growth at the time of acquisition, build a targeted marketing strategy based on refined keyword analysis applied to advertisements on ebook and audiobook selling and fan sites like the Amazon marketplace, Facebook, Bookbub, Fictiondb, and so on, constantly searching for the next hot spot. By targeting readers who are currently searching for exactly that book, we expect consistent success in title selection.We hope to begin considering submissions in Autumn
of 2025
Our approach will look like this: • Authors will receive the standard, if modest, advance on royalties upon acceptance of the complete, polished manuscript. • Authors will be granted royalties 200% of the industry average. • The Intoxicating Page will provide cover art, copy editing, and proof reading, but expect authors to exercise the professionalism of developing their own craft which may require developmental editing at their cost. • Books will be published initially as ebooks. • Just a few Trade Paperbacks will be produced for promotion and back of the room sales at literary events, consignment at bookstores should the author desire to place them. The idea is to generate sufficient ebook sales that a print run becomes necessary. These are our preliminary plans, and they will change.It all depends on how our experiments go . . . Keep in touch.
